This painting is a collage of many Italian cities incorporating seagulls and Jean's signature tree and flower designs. The lower left corner represents Bologna, and the lower right corner is Assisi, while all the upper part of the artwork represents Rome. When Jean was young she had wanted to be an architect, but the imaginative and creative liberty of painting her own artwork took hold. Jean’s passion remained and she often included architectural drawings in her paintings. Her cityscapes have an element of graphic design, and fun and whimsy, as in this painting, as some of the buildings are slanted and lopsided, because sometimes the towns of Italy appear all topsy-turvy with twisting lanes among medieval buildings.
